Run, don't walk, to Ernie's, both because it's so good and because you'll need to burn some calories to make up for all of the delicious pizza you're going to eat. There was zero wait on a Saturday night even though this place deserves a line out the door. We got a pepperoni mozzarella pie and a hot cherry peppers mozzarella pie. Both were fantastic. Perfectly crisp crust, flavorful sauce, and delicious toppings. Our server was attentive and kind. 100% recommend.
Pat was such a class act. We were on a New Haven pizza tour and he took time to come over to our table and talk for a few minutes. Walking into the pizzeria you immediately feel at home. He genuinely cares about his customers and meeting newcomers. Pizza was excellent. Can’t wait to come back
Hands down my favorite pizza, I’ve been going here for over 20 years since I was kid. Highly recommend the meatball and cherry pepper pizza or the traditional pie. Every pizza has had the same level of consistency every time. The owner and staff are extremely passionate about what they do. I try to avoid “the top 3” as they are tourist traps these days. Ernie’s for life!
Pizza was amazing! We got 3 pies all cooked to perfection. My favorite was the mozzarella with hot cherry peppers. Waitstaff was fantastic! She was super helpful & efficient.
This is the #143rd restaurant I have dined at in New Haven. They have a small team and a small menu, but delivered it perfectly. There is an open kitchen where you can see the dough being made into a pizza. The bread is stickier compared with other apizza places in town. They also pair it with a classic Foxon Park soda.
Ernie's has been my go to for years. With Pepe's and Sally's now being tourist traps, Ernie's is still one of the best old-style pizza in New Haven. His meatball pizza is WONDERFUL, especially the cherry peppers! After reading the negative reviews, I can say ignore them, as they really are irrelevant and some of them are downright foolish (like the one from FL criticizing the food...have you ever had pizza in FL? It's not even close to what pizza should be...but, read through them if you wish and judge for yourself.
Great spot! Delicious pizza and always very welcoming staff. Perhaps a bit pricey compared to a few others in the area, but well worth dropping the extra bucks for. The way I look at instead of going to a mediocre spot once a week (pizza heaven) go here like once a month then. Also, I HIGHLY recommend getting fresh garlic added to whatever pie you get. Automatically makes you say mama Mia that’s good!
Might be New Haven’s best kept secret. The owner makes ever pizza that is made there. Good crisp, lots of cheese, not too much grease. Service is quick and efficient, food takes some time but the owner is making everything to perfection and is very friendly with staff and take out customers
